CLERMONT COUNTY CVB LAUNCHES THE CLERMONT FREEDOM TRAIL
BATAVIA, OH – The Clermont County Convention and Visitors Bureau is set to launch the Clermont Freedom Trail. The free trail explores 42 historical sites, 22 of which are approved by the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, throughout the county and nearby communities. This new self guided audio tour features locations across several different areas such as New Richmond, Moscow, Maysville, Ripley and more. This trail is intended to give visitors or local residents an opportunity to explore historical landmarks and provide education on the the struggles, stories and the journey many had to take along the Underground Railroad.
“The National Underground Railroad and Abolitionist movement was a significant chapter in Clermont County history and we are proud to have so many sites on the Clermont Freedom Trail. We had several partners help us with the development of our new brochure and creation of a mobile web-based app that makes it easy to explore our region and experience all of the sites that played a role in helping slaves on their path to freedom.” says Jeff Blom, President of the Clermont County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“I would like to thank Alexis McKinley, our marketing coordinator, for compiling all of the content and photos and developing the layouts for the brochure and app. Gary Knepp, a Clermont County history author, Greg Roberts with Historic New Richmond and Cindy Johnson with the Clermont County Historical Society, all played a large role in assisting the Clermont County CVB with historical facts, content and photos. This project was a nice collaboration over the past seven months.” he added.
This mobile audio tour makes it easier to explore all the stories, endeavors, and facts all from your fingertips. This self-guided journey highlights one of the largest Network to Freedom programs in the nation today and is a great way to educate students, schools, and Ohio history programs to serve as an informational piece on providing history about the Underground Railroad. The Clermont Freedom Trail brochures are available at the Clermont County CVB office. Interested in completing the trail? Download the guide and free audio tour today.
